Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Segra collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what rights you have.
Last updated: October 10, 2026
At a glance
- No ads, no advertising or analytics trackers, and we never sell your data.
- The desktop app records to your own computer. Recordings only leave it when you choose to upload them.
- Clips you upload are public or unlisted. Unlisted clips can still be watched by anyone who has the link.
- We store IP addresses to count views, keep Segra secure and stop abuse.
- To work out which game a clip shows, we may send its thumbnail to Google Gemini or the name of the game’s program file to DeepSeek.
- You can see, download, correct and delete your data. Just email support@segra.tv.
1. Who we are
Segra is run by Olof Segergren, Sweden (“Segra”, “we”, “us”). Olof Segergren is the data controller responsible for your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can contact us at support@segra.tv.
This policy covers the segra.tv website, the Segra desktop app and the online services they use, such as clip uploads. It does not cover services run by others that we link to or that you connect, such as Discord, GitHub or Medal.tv. Their own privacy policies apply to them.
2. Your account
- Signing up with email: your email address, your password (stored only as a secure hash, never in readable form), your username and when you created the account.
- Signing in with Discord: Discord gives us your Discord user ID, username, display name, email address and profile picture. We copy the profile picture to our storage and use it as your first Segra profile picture.
- Staying signed in: our sign-in system records each session with your IP address, browser or app details (user agent) and timestamps. It also keeps a security log of account events, such as sign-ups, sign-ins, password resets and session refreshes, including the IP address each one came from.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you, so you can have an account and use it (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), and our legitimate interest in keeping accounts secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
3. Your profile and activity
The following is public, so anyone can see it, including people without an account:
- your username, profile picture, banner and the date you joined;
- who you follow and who follows you;
- your public clips, with their view counts, likes and comments;
- the comments you post, shown with your username and profile picture;
- clips from Medal.tv or Plays.tv accounts you have linked.
We also store which clips you have liked. While you are signed in and watching a clip, your username and profile picture are shown to other people watching the same clip at the same time.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
4. Clips you upload
When you upload a clip from the desktop app, we store:
- the video file exactly as the app sends it, including all of its audio tracks (for example your microphone, if you recorded it) and any information stored inside the file, such as the names of your audio devices if you keep separate audio tracks;
- a thumbnail image taken from the video;
- the title, description, game, length, upload date and privacy setting (public or unlisted);
- the name of the game’s program file and the folder it is in (for example
VALORANT/VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe), which helps us identify the game. The app never sends the full path on your computer.
Public clips appear on your profile and in search engines, and can be shared anywhere. Unlisted clips are left out of your profile, public listings and search engines, but the clip page, video and thumbnail can be opened by anyone who has the link. Clips are delivered from cdn.segra.tv through Cloudflare.
You can change a clip’s details or delete it at any time. When you delete a clip, we delete it together with its views, likes and comments.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
5. Automatic game identification
We sort clips by game. If we can’t match a clip to a game from its program file name, our game detection system tries to identify the game automatically:
- the program file name and folder may be sent to DeepSeek, which may search the web to find out which game it belongs to;
- if that doesn’t work, or no program file name is known, the clip’s thumbnail image is sent to Google’s Gemini AI service, which tries to recognize the game.
This applies to public and unlisted clips. We don’t send your username, account ID, the clip’s title or the video itself. The result can set the game shown on your clip, and you can change it at any time. When a program file name is matched to a game, the file name and game, without any link to you, can be added to the public list of games that Segra detects.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in organizing clips by game and improving game detection (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time by contacting us.
6. Views and abuse prevention
When someone opens a clip, we record a view with their IP address, the time, the clip and, if they are signed in, their account ID. We use this to count each viewer once per clip per day and to remove fake views. Visits from known bots are not counted.
To stop scraping and abuse, we keep a counter per IP address for 10 minutes. If an IP address registers views much faster than a person could, we delete all views from that address. We also block IP addresses that are known to attack or abuse websites.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in accurate view counts and in protecting Segra from abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
7. The Segra desktop app
Recording happens on your computer
The Segra app records your game or screen, game audio and the audio devices you choose. By default it records your default microphone and all sound from your computer, which can include other people in voice chat. Recordings are saved on your computer and only leave it when you choose to upload them, so please check your clips before you share them.
For supported games, the app detects events such as kills, deaths or goals to create highlights. It reads them from the game’s own interfaces, logs or replay files, and for some games by reading on-screen text with the text recognition built into Windows. To do this, it may add an integration file to some games’ folders. All of this happens on your computer and nothing is sent to us.
The app also keeps a log file on your computer with technical details, such as the programs and windows it sees and file paths, which can include your Windows user name. It is never sent automatically. If you share it with us for support, please check it first.
When the app connects to the internet
The app makes these requests, including when you are not signed in:
- OBS compatibility check (Windows): every time the app starts, it asks segra.tv which versions of OBS, the recording engine Segra uses, it can run. For each check we record the date, a hash of your IP address (not the address itself), the app version, the Windows version and whether this is the first time the app runs after being installed. We use this to count active installations and see which versions are in use.
- Game list: when it starts, the app downloads the list of games it can detect from cdn.segra.tv.
- Game artwork: while you record, the app shows the game’s cover, first looking the game up by name on segra.tv if it doesn’t know the cover. Your game settings also show game icons. These requests only say which game the image is for and don’t include any account details. The app keeps each image for up to 30 days and Cloudflare caches them too, so the same image is usually only requested once, and requests are often answered by Cloudflare’s cache without reaching our servers. You can turn off covers and the name lookups with the Show Game Covers setting.
- Updates: the app checks GitHub for new versions and release notes, and downloads updates and OBS from GitHub. The installer may also download required components from Microsoft.
The OBS compatibility check and the game list download include the app version and your operating system version. Airplane Mode leaves that information out, signs you out and turns off uploading, but the app still checks for updates, downloads its game list and runs the OBS compatibility check.
When you sign in, the app connects to segra.tv to sign you in, show your profile, upload clips and keep its list of your uploaded clips up to date. Your sign-in tokens are stored in the app’s settings on your computer.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the app compatible and up to date and in knowing how many installations use which versions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and performance of our contract with you for signed-in features (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
8. Services you connect
- Discord webhooks: we store the webhook address and the name you give it. When you upload a public clip, we post a link to it in that Discord channel, and Discord shows a preview of the clip page.
- Medal.tv: when you link a Medal.tv account, we store its Medal user ID, username, display name and profile picture address. We regularly fetch that account’s public clips from Medal.tv to show on your Segra profile. Medal videos are streamed through our servers, and their thumbnails load from Medal.tv.
- Plays.tv: when you link a Plays.tv username, we store it and fetch the clips archived for it from RecoverPlays (recoverplays.tv), a separate service. Those clips load directly from recoverplays.tv.
You can unlink any of these in Settings at any time.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you, because you asked us to connect them (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
9. Exports and emails
- Exports: when you export your clips, we create a ZIP file of them that you can download for 6 hours. After that it is deleted.
- Emails: we only send emails about your account, such as confirming your email address, resetting your password or changing your email address. They are sent through Resend. We don’t send newsletters or marketing emails.
Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
10. Supporters page
Our public Supporters page lists people who sponsor Segra through GitHub Sponsors, with their names, usernames, profile pictures and total contributions, using data from GitHub. If you don’t want to appear there, contact us.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in thanking the people who support Segra (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
11. Support
When you contact us by email, on Discord or on GitHub, we use what you send us to help you.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing support and fixing bugs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
12. Technical logs
Cloudflare protects segra.tv and cdn.segra.tv and processes every request to them, including your IP address and browser details.
Our servers log requests, with the IP address, time, requested address, response and browser details, so we can keep Segra running and secure and investigate problems. Our upload server records which account each upload belongs to.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
15. Where your data is stored
Our servers and database are in Finland. Clips and images are stored in Cloudflare’s European storage region and delivered worldwide through Cloudflare’s network, so copies can be cached in data centers outside the EU.
Some of our providers are outside the EU and EEA. For transfers to the United States, we rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, or otherwise on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
DeepSeek processes data in China. The European Commission has not decided that China provides an adequate level of data protection, so data sent to DeepSeek may not be protected to the same standard as in the EU. We only send DeepSeek the name of a game’s program file and its folder, for example VALORANT/VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe. We send it from our own servers, without your username, account ID, IP address, clip or anything else that could link it to you.
16. How long we keep data
| Data | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account, profile, settings, linked accounts and webhooks | Until you remove them or your account is deleted |
| Clips, comments, likes and follows | Until you delete them or your account is deleted |
| Views, including IP addresses | No fixed time limit. Deleted when the clip is deleted. |
| Sign-in sessions | Until you sign out or the session ends |
| Account security log and the request logs of our database services | No fixed time limit at the moment |
| Request logs of our web server | A short time, usually about a day |
| Abuse counters per IP address | 10 minutes, or 24 hours after views from an address have been removed |
| OBS compatibility check records | No fixed time limit at the moment |
| Game identification results | Deleted with the clip. Program file names in the public game list, which are not linked to you, are kept. |
| Clip exports | 6 hours |
| Support requests | As long as needed to handle your request |
When your account is deleted, we delete your account, profile, clips, comments, likes, follows, linked accounts, webhooks and the views linked to your account. We keep only what the law requires us to keep, and data that is not linked to you, such as entries in our public game list. Copies can remain in caches for a short time.
17. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- get a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have incorrect data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- restrict how we use your data;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests, such as automatic game identification or view tracking.
You can do a lot yourself: change your username, profile picture and banner, edit or delete clips and comments, unlink connected accounts, remove webhooks and download all your clips from Settings. For anything else, including deleting your account or getting a copy of all your data, email support@segra.tv from the email address on your account. We may ask you to confirm your identity. We reply within one month. If a request is complicated, we may need up to two more months, and we will tell you if so.
You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, imy.se) or to the data protection authority where you live or work.
18. Children
Segra is not meant for children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to create an account. In some countries, children under 16 need a parent’s permission before we can process their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data without the permission they need, contact us and we will delete it.
19. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make significant changes, we will tell you on the website or by email before they take effect.
